The Chinese group BTR New Material, a world pioneer in the production of cathodes and anodes for electric batteries, announced the construction of two new factories in Morocco. These infrastructures, located in Tangier, are part of the dynamics of the rapidly expanding Moroccan industrial ecosystem and should be operational by 2026.

This announcement was made during a meeting between the Minister of Investment, Karim Zidane, and the vice-president of BTR New Material, Yang Shuzhan, who reaffirmed “their common desire to make Morocco a strategic hub for electric battery technologies.”

An ambitious project in the heart of the Mohammed VI City Tanger Tech

Discussions “focused on the progress of the cathode factory, work on which was launched at the beginning of 2024 as well as the implementation of a new factory dedicated to the manufacture of anodes. The latter will be located within the Cité Mohammed VI Tanger Tech, an industrial and technological complex designed to attract foreign investment in sectors of the future.a-t-on appris.

In total, the project represents an investment of six billion dirhams, with the creation of more than 1,100 highly qualified jobs, which confirms Morocco’s position as an essential platform in the electric battery and renewable energy industry.

BTR New Material’s choice of Morocco can be explained by the favorable environment that the country offers, both in terms of modern infrastructure, industrial integration and commitment to the energy transition. This partnership is also part of the national strategy intended to promote green industry and strengthen energy autonomy on a regional and international scale.
