An earthquake killed at least a hundred people on Tuesday. But since the Chinese authorities have not requested international aid, the Confederation will not intervene on site.

The Confederation is not currently planning to send a team from the Swiss Humanitarian Aid Corps to Tibet, hit by an earthquake on Tuesday. Chinese authorities have not requested international aidsaid the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).
The Department for Development and Cooperation (SDC) remains in close contact with the Swiss embassy in Beijing and is monitoring developments in the situation, said the FDFA, interviewed by Keystone-ATS.
According to the SDC website, Switzerland provides emergency aid when humanitarian needs are great and large numbers of people are in distress and when local, national and regional capacities are lacking or insufficient. not to overcome crises and their consequences.
Calls for help
To assess needs and decide where and when to act, SDC Humanitarian Aid refers to appeals for help launched by the States concerned, the ICRC and/or the relevant UN agencies. It is also based on observations provided by Swiss representations abroad and various NGOs.
