It's a flop. Launched last October on HBO and the Max platform, The Franchise sees his journey on the small screen suddenly interrupted. Even though the critics and the public seemed rather excited, the sentence has just fallen for the series “office” promised to great things. According to Deadlinethe subsidiary of Warner Bros Discovery wanted to stop the costs in the face of the lack of success of the work produced by Sam Mendes and Armando Iannucci. It must be said that the project, which tackled a very popular subject, did not manage to stand out in the Nielsen rankings of the most popular series at the time of its broadcast. Max and HBO did not specify the audiences achieved for this first season, they were obviously not sufficient. In an ocean of new series, The Franchise did not do well. The month of October was marked by the releases of The Penguin on Max, while it is Dune : Prophecy which stood out in November. A company spokesperson told Deadline do not regret this investment: “We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with the teams behind The Franchise and this hilarious ensemble of actors.”
End of construction
Created by Armando Iannucci, a former Veep et Successionand Jon Brown, The Franchise took viewers behind the scenes of their favorite blockbusters. Alongside a team of producers, assistants and directors, the entire superhero film industry was mocked. Throughout the episodes, it was about encapsulating the chaos that sometimes reigns when the magic of cinema does not work as expected. Eight episodes were offered in this one and only season. HBO did not skimp on big names to carry its project, starting with Daniel Brühl (Good Bye Lenin!) and Richard E. Grant (Star Wars) to play the directors and stars of a science fiction blockbuster. Himesh Patel (Yesterday) et Lolly Adefope (Ghost) were the producers of this film which would soon become a real creative chaos. If the journey ends abruptly, we can only advise you to discover this first season which is not lacking in great ideas and clever comic writing.
