Magali C., a 45-year-old mother, and her son, Naël O., 8 years oldhad disappeared in the Drôme since January 1, 2025. Two days after their departure from Romans-sur-Isère, towards the mountains and Villard-de-Lans, the gendarmes announced the terrible news…
Le Parisien reports that the two bodies were finally found, after an unsuccessful call for witnesses. They were near the Peugeot 107 of the mother, who was parked on the side of a road. For the moment, investigators favor the theory of infanticide followed by suicide.
Did the mother kill her son before committing suicide?
The motivations still remain mysterious. According to the Dauphiné Libéré, on the day of her departure, Magali C. had written to her older daughter to tell her that she was coming back two hours later. Thereafter, there was no further communication between them.
The mother celebrated her 45th birthday on January 1, 2025.. According to a neighbor, she had “couple problems”with the father of her son, Rémi. She had separated from him less than a year ago, and they likely shared custody of their child.
The latter is the first surprised by this tragic outcome. He explained to our colleagues, before learning of the deaths of the two: “Disappearing on her birthday with Nael, I don't understand”.
Located with her cell phone, it was ultimately the Chabeuil gendarmes, during a patrol, who discovered her vehicle, away from homes.
An ongoing criminal investigation
“Near the vehicle, were discovered the lifeless bodies of two people appearing to be the wanted child and his mother”, indicates the Valence prosecutor Laurent de Caigny in a press release.
The investigation into a disturbing disappearance has in fact evolved. It has just been reclassified as “deprivation of care for a minor aged fifteen by ascendant leading to death.” An autopsy was performedof which we are still waiting for the results to understand what happened.
The Valencia public prosecutor's office has not yet shared its conclusions. However, the prosecutor clarified: “The qualification is likely to evolve depending on the findings of forensic medicine.. These latter “must intervene with the assistance of doctors from the Grenoble medico-legal institute”. To be continued…
