Faced with regional security challenges, Morocco is continuing its military strengthening strategy with a budget of 133 billion dirhams allocated to national defense for the year 2025. This dynamic is part of the continuity of the efforts deployed by the Maghreb countries to modernize their arsenals and consolidate their military capabilities. The Shereef kingdom thus maintains its trajectory of increasing investments in this strategic sector.
The constant increase in the Moroccan national defense budget testifies to this desire for modernization. The figures presented by Nadia Fettah, Minister of Economy and Finance, reveal an increase of 7.25% compared to 2024. Of the 133 billion dirhams, 53 billion are intended for the national defense administration, of which 45.356 billion for personnel costs and 7.632 billion for equipment.
The 2025 acquisition program of the Royal Armed Forces provides for the strengthening of several critical segments: aviation, land forces and air defense. The American State Department has also validated two major contracts: the acquisition of medium-range air-to-air missiles for $88.37 million, as well as GBU-39B small diameter bombs with their associated equipment, representing an investment of 86 million dollars.
The evolution of Moroccan military spending is illustrated by a marked increase since 2019, going from 96.7 billion dirhams to 115.5 billion in 2022, then 124.7 billion in 2024. This increase in power benefits from American support and Israeli, positioning the kingdom as a major player in the regional balance in the Maghreb.
