Objects thrown in mid-flight: two passengers fight over a crying child

Bottle of water, cushions: two passengers who were traveling between Japan and Hong Kong on Monday will face charges for disruptive behavior after throwing objects at each other’s heads over a story about a child crying on board.

“The two women argued over trivial matters on flight CX581 around 9:45 p.m. Monday and then threw objects at each other,” a Hong Kong police spokesperson said Tuesday, according to “The Independent.”

A crying child would have set fire to the powder on Monday evening during a Cathay Pacific airline flight which took off from Sapporo, Japan, towards Hong Kong, according to the British media.

The incident allegedly occurred when a three-year-old child, who was traveling with a passenger from mainland China, identified as Zhang, 60, started to become agitated.

It was then that another irritated passenger seated at the back of the sixty-year-old, Tsui, 32, from Hong Kong, allegedly grabbed a bottle of water to throw it at her, according to “The Independent”.

The sixty-year-old then responded by throwing a flight cushion at him, in front of the company’s employees who rushed to contain the two women.

“Our cabin crew […] issued a verbal warning before asking the police for help. The two passengers were then escorted from the plane by airport security staff and the police,” the spokesperson continued, according to the British media.

According to the company, the 30-year-old said she had been injured in the forehead, while Zhang complained of chest pain.

“But both refused to be hospitalized,” Cathay Pacific said.

The two women now face charges of disorderly conduct or disobeying safety instructions, which in Hong Kong can result in a fine of up to HK$50,000, or nearly $9,250, and a sentence of prison of up to five years, according to “The Independent”.
