A shower storm located in Desvres, large snowflakes in southern Avesnois and many surprised motorists. On the night of Monday January 6 to Tuesday January 7, 2025, snow fell in the south of Nord and Pas-de-Calais.
Shortly before midnight, the grounds of the town of Desvres were covered with a pretty white coat. The cause was snow showers which covered car windshields and sidewalks.
Rue Roger Salengro for example, several centimeters accumulated in just a few minutes. But with temperatures remaining positive overnight, the snow has since melted.
In the early morning of Tuesday, January 7, 2025, residents of southern Avesnois and Thiérache were surprised to wake up to snowflakes.
In Fourmies, the roads are white… and slippery: be careful! Snow also fell in the neighboring department of Aisne, where the village of Froidestrées near Hirson was covered in a nice layer of snow.
In the Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise area, snowflakes also covered the streets around 5 a.m. The earliest workers therefore had to be extra vigilant on the very slippery country roads.
After the first very brief episode of snow on Saturday January 4, 2025, this is the second snowfall recorded in our two departments since the start of the year. A few flakes coupled with slippery soils which led Météo Franc to place the Nord and Pas-de-Calais on yellow snow-ice alert this Tuesday, January 7, 2025 until noon.
After a lull in the afternoon, a new disturbance is expected on Wednesday January 8, 2025, more significant this time. “Snow accumulations could reach 5 to 10 centimeters across the whole of Nord and Pas-de-Calais”indicates Cédric Vauclin, forecaster at Météo France, even if the models still need to be refined.
A rise of snow from the south is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, while snow should fall in the Lille region late afternoon, early evening.

For the moment, the Nord and Pas-de-Calais are placed on yellow snow-ice alert from 3 p.m. but this could change. “A rise of snow from the south is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, while snow should fall in the Lille region late afternoon, early evening”warns the forecaster.
A worsening of vigilance is not excluded depending on the quantities of snow, whileA second, smaller snowfall is expected for Thursday morning, “adding a few cm of snow to those already fallen”. A classic winter phenomenon, concludes Météo France.
