Every year it is Noël after the hour, for goats from the La Chèvre Rit farm, in Monts-du-Roumois (Eure).
The goats love it
For the fourth consecutive year, in 2025, the biquettes will benefit from your user trees, and enjoy them throughout the month of January. “We give them two a day, they usually have enough for the whole month, or more,” explains Séverine Delavoipièrethe farmer, who receives more than a hundred each year.
She was the one who had the idea of collecting the Christmas trees four years ago. “I saw on TV that other farms were doing it,” she says.
From December 26 and often until around January 20, local residents drop off the fir trees directly at the farm. “It is absolutely necessary remove all decorationsand don’t cut them,” she explains, removing a remnant of golden decorative filament, forgotten on a tree.
Eating plastic is obviously not good for the health of goats, and cutting the tree is less practical for Séverine. “I give them the whole fir trees, they eat greeneryand I get the wooden stop. » It is therefore imperative to bring the tree before it is completely dry, in which case the goats would not want it.
Vitamins and trace elements
“The goats love it,” laughs Séverine. They are about fiftyall pregnant, resting until the arrival of their young, expected in the spring. This is a period where they do not produce milk, the season is calm on the farm. “They need less energy, eat mainly hay, and a little corn. »
The fir trees are for the pleasure of the goats but it also constitutes a supply of vitamins and trace elements. It also contributes to the good balance of their body. “It’s even a natural dewormer,” adds Séverine.
You can drop off your natural fir trees, stripped of any decoration, at La Chèvre Rit, 24 Imp. de la Vallée Saint-Clair, 27520 Les Monts-du-Roumois. In low season, it is still possible to buy cheese at the shop located on the farm on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
