Take your diary: the year 2025 promises to be eventful in Gironde with a series of major projects which will redesign the ring road, strengthen historic infrastructure and modernize transport. A brief overview of the projects that will mark the department.
The ring road: a never-ending construction site
If you take the Bordeaux ring road regularly, prepare yourself for a few new releases (and maybe a few extra corks). In the spring, construction of an auxiliary track begins between the interchanges 17 (Talence, Gradignan) et 18 (Cadaujac, Villenave-d'Ornon). Objective: to make traffic flow more smoothly. The project is expected to last seven months.
On the soft mobility side, a cycle bridge will be created on the François-Mitterrand bridge. Elimination of bicycles in 2018? Error corrected! Work will begin before summer for commissioning in 2026. Finally, studies for a lane reserved for public transport between Mérignac and Saint-Jean-d'Illac are in progress.
The stone bridge: four years of reinforcements
It is an emblematic monument, but also a colossus with fragile feet. From May 2025the stone bridge begins a titanic project to strengthen its foundations. The current wooden piles will be replaced by concrete piles anchored 25 meters deep.
During this work, expect disruptions: tram line A will be cut every summer. Pedestrians and cyclists will however have maintained access. The cost? 50 million eurosto save this historic work inaugurated in 1822.
Marcheprime: an XXL maintenance center for TGVs
Between Bordeaux and ArcachonMarcheprime is preparing to become a strategic point for high speed. Lisea, concessionaire for the Bordeaux-Toulouse and Dax TGV lines, is launching the construction of a huge maintenance center. On 28 000 m²it will accommodate up to 20 oars simultaneously.
This project represents a investment of 150 million euros and plans 100 direct jobs. But not everyone is convinced: residents of the Croix d'Hins district, opposed to the clearing of the area, have not succeeded in stopping the project.
Lacanau: a seafront in transformation
The onslaughts of the ocean do not frighten Lacanau. The seaside resort continues its ambitious redevelopment to protect its coasts until 2030. In 2025, it is central plotnear the first aid station, which will be at the heart of the site.
If the structural work is planned for winter 2025-2026the coming year will be marked by the movement of buried networks. An essential step to secure the premises against rising water levels.
An express bus on the boulevards of Bordeaux
After the line G inaugurated in 2024place day H in September 2025. This express bus line will run on the boulevards and will use the Chaban-Delmas and Simone-Veil bridges. Fewer stops, but increased frequency: this is enough to offer a serious alternative to the tram.
And the LGV? Still controversial
The Bordeaux-Toulouse high-speed line continues to fuel debate. In 2025, SNCF will focus on network diversions, the installation of site bases and the first road works. Local opposition and environmental impacts remain at the heart of concerns, but the work is progressing inexorably.
And after?
These major projects are preparing the Gironde of tomorrow, between transport modernization and heritage preservation. Whether you are a driver, cyclist or simply curious, these transformations will necessarily concern you. So, are you ready to keep up?
