Made in France in the art workshops of the Monnaie de Paris, the Medal of Honor for Labor is available in 4 grades and rewards the years of service of employees. To obtain it, you must fulfill several conditions.
Honored employees. In accordance with the decree of May 15, 1948, the Medal of Honor for Labor, which has 4 levels, represents recognition by the Republic of the professional investment of any employed person for their 20 years (“Silver” grade), 30 years (grade “Vermeil”), 35 years (“Or” grade) and 40 years (“Grand Gold” grade) of years of service within one or more structures.

Who can get it?
To obtain the Medal of Honor for Work, you must be an employee or retiree and have worked 20 years in France, in the overseas departments and territories or abroad for a French structure.
Conversely, state civil servants who are subject to civil service status, as well as magistrates of the judicial order, cannot receive this distinction.
How to get it?
The Medal of Honor for Labor is awarded at the request of the employer or employee who must submit an application file to the Prefecture. The file requires:
- A completed application, dated and signed by the applicant (form to be obtained from town halls and prefectures).
- The employer certificate(s) drawn up on plain paper, by which the employer(s) attest to the information contained in the application.
- Payment (transfer or check payable to “La Monnaie de Paris”).
The amount changes depending on the rank. It costs between 60 and 70 euros for the “Silver” and “Vermeil” grades where the medals are made in silver and around 1,300 euros for the “Gold” and “Grand Gold” grades where they are made of solid gold.
The award of the Medal of Honor for Work also gives rise to the issuance of a nominative diploma which is sent, with an order, to the applicant and sometimes to a bonus, at the discretion of the employer.
