“FRAPP/FRANCE DEGAGE”: MOISSON FOR SOVEREIGNTY

The Front for an Anti-Imperialist, Popular and Pan-African Revolution (FRAPP) has become an actor in the activist landscape in Senegal. Founded in 2017 by citizen organizations, this movement aims to be a mobilizing force against “economic and political imperialism”, with a commitment to “national and pan-African sovereignty”.

A FIGHT AGAINST COLONIAL LEGACY

Since its creation, FRAPP has often been associated with slogans like “ get out!” », reflecting an exasperation with the presence of French economic and political interests in Senegal. However, its leaders specify that their fight goes beyond the anti-French framework, targeting all forms of imperialism, whether Western, Asian or other. Indeed, campaigns like “Auchan get out” and “China Mall get out” have illustrated a desire to protect local businesses in the face of foreign competition. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to defend the economic rights of local populations. Although anti-French sentiment is often highlighted, FRAPP leaders insist on the global aspect of their fight. Their actions aim to raise awareness of systemic inequalities resulting from international policies, while promoting an endogenous development model.

AXES OF COMBAT

Economic sovereignty FRAPP opposes unbalanced contracts established with foreign multinationals, particularly in the strategic oil, gas and mining sectors. The movement demands that the exploitation of Senegal’s natural resources primarily benefit its citizens, advocating transparent and equitable management of national wealth. Democracy and social justice Faced with growing inequalities and abuses, FRAPP campaigns for true democracy in Senegal. This includes transparent political institutions, a fight against abuse of power, and reforms aimed at ensuring equitable distribution of wealth, for better access to fundamental rights such as health, education and employment. Pan-Africanism Rooted in a pan-African vision, FRAPP promotes strengthened solidarity between African peoples. He calls for continental integration to address common challenges, particularly in terms of food self-sufficiency, the fight against corruption and sustainable development.

For FRAPP, African unity is essential to the emancipation of the continent from external influences. Frapp defines itself as more than a protest movement, and says it embody a desire to rethink sovereignty, not in Senegal, but throughout the African continent.
