With the holiday season coming to an end, many are taking advantage of the weekend to take down decorations. The Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean Forestry Association (AFSL) would like to remind you of the importance of dropping off natural fir trees at the nearest ecocenter.
L’DISCLAIMER is holding its Common Sense Tree campaign throughout the month of January. The goal is to encourage families to make eco-responsible choices during the holidays and to recycle natural trees after the festivities.
In partnership with ecocenters, the Forestry Association recovers trees for their second life.
It has more positive impacts on the environment, says communications manager Isabelle Tremblay. These trees will be transformed into compost, mulch and they can also be converted into energy with the Saint-Félicien cogeneration plant.

Every year, between 800 and 1000 trees are collected. Since the start of the campaign 33 years ago, more than 181,000 trees have been transformed.
According to the association, each thousand trees collected makes it possible to produce 22 cubic meters of compost, thus avoiding the landfill of 12 tonnes of material.
Important reminders
On its Facebook page, the City of Saguenay reminded its citizens not to put their Christmas trees in the brown bins. It is also important to remove all decorations from it.
