Zakaria El Ouahdi, player of the Genk club in Belgium, has decided! He will only wear the colors of Morocco despite rumors that he would consider changing his sporting nationality to join the Red Devils due to the strong competition for his position in the Moroccan national team.
“Even if I am told that I am 100% sure of being a starter for the Devils and that in Morocco this chance is only 10%, I would have a hard time changing. I want to do everything in my power to force my luck with Morocco,” said Zakaria El Ouahdi during a recent interview with the Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.
And the African U23 champion clarified: “I won Olympic bronze with Morocco and the African Cup with the under-23s. I have always worn this jersey with pride and I made this choice with my heart. It’s not up to me to suddenly slam the door.”
Zakaria El Ouahdi did not fail, during this interview, to recall his admiration for the stars of La Tanière such as Achraf Hakimi, Munir Mohamedi and Soufiane Rahimi with whom he won the Bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.
“It turned out they were also very humble. Hakimi immediately put me at ease and when my performance on the left side was good, the train was off. The bronze medal is safe with my parents. It’s a trophy that I will always cherish,” concludes the Genk full-back.
Zakaria El Ouahdi has 18 appearances in the Belgian league this season for 1 goal and 1 assist. His team is currently at the top of the Pro League standings with 42 points (13 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses).
