Alongside his participation in the volunteer evening, Frédéric Villeroux went to the gymnasium of the Jean-Moulin high school Andelysin theYour.
Legacy of the Games
This meeting was part of a partnership between the Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee (CDOS) chaired by Sylvain Villa and the Andelysian association “Aide mon projet” and the “Heritage of the Games” system and disability awareness led by the CDOS27.
Captain of the French team blind footballFrédéric Villeroux offered the Paralympic title by converting his shot on goal against Argentina in the final.
“I don’t know how I did it. Since then, I haven’t put another one back,” he joked before highlighting the collective.
“In order for me to win the French team, it took a save from the goalkeeper and also two goals. There are players who stepped up at the right time. It is the success of a collective but also of a staff. There is an element of luck but luck must be provoked. »
Perseverance, self-sacrifice and surpassing oneself
Franck Gaillardouthe PE teacher, explained that this meeting had a double objective.
“Through perseverance, willpower, self-sacrifice, surpassing yourself, you will be able to overcome your difficulties. Mr. Villeroux is a perfect example. I also want to lead you on the path of tolerance and kindness by moving towards acceptance of others and their differences. »
The rest of the afternoon took place in several stages. Frédéric Villeroux began by talking about his discipline, blind football, which many high school students knew little or nothing about.
This sport, which is played with a sound ball, is aimed at the blind and visually impaired. Frédéric Villeroux belongs to this second category. “I distinguish colors, so to identify you, I will address you by referring to the color of your outfit,” he clarified.
“This title has changed nothing in my life”
A rare moment, the students were able to see and even touch a Paralympic gold medal.
“This title has changed nothing in my life. I returned to my daily life as a sports instructor, which is what I wanted to do since I was 14. My disability didn't allow me to do it right away, but I always kept that in mind. »
As he did personally, Frédéric Villeroux encouraged high school students to give themselves the means to achieve their ambitions and realize their dreams. “Due to my disability, it wasn’t always easy but I achieved it through hard work and perseverance. »
Three practical workshops

The discussions then gave way to practice. The blind football champion set up three workshops. The first consisted of moving in a defined space with a blackout mask over the eyes.
Then Frédéric Villeroux made things a little more complicated since the students had to avoid each other. Arms out and shouting “Voy”, which means “I’m going” to signal.
The second workshop aimed to move around with a ball on your feet. The high school students then tried their hand at shooting on goal. Easier said than done.
At the end of the session, Frédéric Villeroux collected the impressions of the students, who will undoubtedly remember this extraordinary meeting for a long time.
