Dordogne. A town has changed its name

In 2025, eight French municipalities will change their names. One of them is located in Dordogne.

If certain changes were adopted in 2023, they have only been effective since January 1.

We were already talking about it in our columns. The town of Faux, 661 inhabitants, changed its name from January 1, 2025. The village will now be called Faux-en-Périgord.

Administrative difficulties

Due to administrative difficulties, the commune of Faux changed its name to Faux-en-Périgord. A decision recorded on August 10, 2024 by a decree published in the Official Journal.

« The only “False” was not taken into account in certain Excel tables and this posed some administrative problems », indicated the mayor, Alain Legal, to our colleagues from bleu Périgord.

24 new municipalities

Since 1943, 1,387 municipalities have decided to change their names.

In France, on January 1, 24 new municipalities were created, the result of mergers between several municipalities. These make it possible to further pool financial, material and human resources.
