Be very careful on the roads. An orange alert for slippery conditions is triggered from 11 p.m. this Saturday in two Walloon provinces. It is recommended to avoid unnecessary travel until early Sunday morning.
The Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) has issued an orange alert for slippery conditions from this Saturday from 11 p.m. until 10 a.m. Sunday, in the provinces of Liège and Luxembourg. The rest of the country has been placed on yellow alert.
This Sundaythe sky will be very cloudy to overcast with occasional moderate rain. Early in the morning, there will still be a risk of freezing rain in the eastern cantons and the possibility of (melting) snow in the north-east of the country. In the afternoon, precipitation will become rather intermittent. It will be noticeably milder with maximums of 5 or 6 degrees in the upper Ardennes to 12 or 13 degrees in the west.
The wind will be moderate to fairly strong, and quite strong to sometimes strong at sea, from south to southwest with gusts of 55 to 65 km/h and possibly up to 75 km/h on the Ardennes terrain.
Reinforced vigilance on the Walloon road network
The Walloon Road Action Unit (CAR), made up of the Regional Center for Risk Coordination and the Transmission of Expertise (CORTEX), the Perex center and the Federal Road Police, also announced this Saturday that it would be activated. Vigilance is reinforced and the situation on the Walloon road network is regularly monitored in order to take all appropriate measures.
All users are recommended to avoid unnecessary travel until early Sunday morning. If they still have to take the road, they are advised to be very attentive on motorway access and exit ramps and in exposed places such as bridges. They can also find out about traffic conditions on the Walloon network on the inforoutes.be sites.
Heavy rain alert overnight from Sunday to Monday
Finally, the IRM also launched a yellow alert for rain from Sunday to Monday morning, for the provinces of Namur and Luxembourg. “Between this Saturday midnight and Monday morning, the precipitation will be quite marked at times and we can locally record 30 to 40 l/m2, mainly in the south of the provinces of Namur and Luxembourg (with more than 25 l/m2 in 24h)”specifies the institute.
Following this bad weather warning, the FPS Interior indicated this Saturday afternoon that the number 1722 and the e-desk www.1722.be are activated. This is the emergency call number for storm and water damage and when no life is in danger.
The 1722.be electronic counter is the most direct way to request help from the firefighters, specifies the FPS Interior, a request which is transmitted directly to them. But it is also possible to call 1722. The number 112 is reserved for situations where a life is in danger.
