Zakaria El Ouadhi is one of the best right-backs in the Jupiler Pro League. In recent weeks, he has caused a lot of talk after announcing that he was not closing the door to the Red Devils.
El Ouadhi chose Morocco
The Genk player, however, seems to have changed his mind. In an interview with Het Belang van Limburg, he made it clear that Morocco was his first choice.
“I won the Olympic bronze medal with Morocco and I also played in the African Cup with the U23s. I have always worn this jersey with pride. This choice, I made it with my heart. I don’t see myself suddenly closing this door behind me.”
Despite the presence of players like Achraf Hakimi (PSG) and Noussair Mazraoui (Manchester United) in his position, El Ouadhi wants to defend the colors of Morocco: “Even being sure of being a starter with the Red Devils, I prefer to try to to get a place in the Moroccan team I will do everything I can to get my chance.
Benfica
The former RWDM player also reflected on his failed transfer to Benfica last summer: “It was a great offer, but when Genk said no, I put that behind me. I continued to concentrate on my performances. My faith has also helped me. Everything that happens comes for a reason. I just have to keep working and other opportunities will come.
