It appears that in Breuillet, on the border between Saintonge and the Pays Royannais, at a place called La Guillaumine, a treasure of Templars rests in the underground passages of a commandery in ruins. A local dowser took a great interest in it. The story comes from the book of the late Didier Audinot, experienced treasure hunter, who died in 2011. Six years before, he had published a work listing some treasure legends in our corner of Charente-Maritime. Among them, that of this treasure.
“A big dreamer”
Mayor Jacques Lys has never heard of it: “There are underground passages there, including one that leaves the church. A dowser who smelled a treasure? That doesn't mean anything to me. » The elected official still represents the fifth generation of his family who lives in the town. He directs us to Jacques-Edmond Machefert, local author.
The latter looked at the toponymy of places in Breuillet including the one that interests us, Guillaumine. “At the end of this text, I quote a 1978 article from “Littoral” by Robert Colle,” confides the writer. We read: “In the Guillaumine woods, Mr. Bouyer discovered underground passages of the greatest interest. Some believe that a Templar treasure is hidden there. »
His daughter-in-law, Noëlle Bouyer, widow of one of “Mr. Bouyer's” sons, sheds a little more light on this for us. “He was a big dreamer, he was looking for the treasure of the Templars in the underground passages of Guillaumine, to the detriment of his family unfortunately,” confides La Breuilletonne. Because this quest was more than a hobby for the man, he devoted a large part of his life to it.
“During that time, he wasn't working… An obsession can be harmful. His children didn't want to hear any more about it. » Today, this place is completely built. The access to the underground passages is no longer visible. “We had to go through small holes which opened onto quite imposing rooms,” adds our interlocutor. A word of advice, don't try to look for it. » It is well noted.
