The first flakes are expected at nightfall. Thirty departments in the north-east of France should be placed on vigilance orange snow ice, this Saturday January 4, 2025 by Météo France.

The snow and ice should arrive via Picardy: the Oise, then the and the Aisne. A little later, they should affect the and Pas-de-, around 11 p.m.

Météo France details: “following a cold air mass widespread throughout Hauts-de-France, a disturbance arrives at the end of the day, associated with significantly milder air, which sweeps the region from the southwest to northeast. The meeting of these two air masses leads to winter precipitation, initially in the form of a generally brief episode of snow, quickly followed by a more notable evolution into freezing rain..

Météo France describes the meteorological event as“winter episode requiring particular vigilance”. Precipitation is expected to occur as snow initially. The heights on the ground should not exceed 1 cm and locally, 1 to 3 cm on the relief of Pas-de-Calais.

Météo France warns of the risk of freezing rain during the night from Saturday to Sunday January 5, 2025. The roads could then be very slippery. “Traffic conditions could be difficult in the affected areas”assures Bison Futé in a press release, calling “All road users should exercise extra caution.”

The Hauts-de-France prefecture recommends “limit your travel and favor public transportbut also “take food, warm clothes and your charged phone” and finally “prevent falls by clearing snow and salting the sidewalks in front of your home.

Bison Futé therefore calls on all road users to be extra carefulas well as to find out about changes in weather and traffic conditions before leaving. The road information site invites road users to be vigilant and to respect the work of road officials who work to maintain or restore traffic conditions as quickly as possible.

Overnight, as mild air progresses, precipitation should put an end to freezing rain.

If temperatures are cool, around 0 degrees, in and on Saturday, they will rise to around 10 degrees on Sunday.
