An Air France flight urgently returns to Paris 17 minutes after takeoff due to a pressurization problem

A pressurization malfunction has been reported. The crew made the decision to return the plane to its base to carry out technical checks.

A return to land faster than expected. The crew of a Airbus connecting CDG to Barcelona was forced to return to base after only 17 minutes of travel due to a cabin pressurization malfunction. The flight was canceled and no injuries were reported.

Indeed, the loss of pressurization is a potentially serious emergency situation, because it allows flying at high altitude while avoiding the physiological risks linked to the drop in atmospheric pressure. The plane therefore turned around to carry out technical checks.

“Air crews are regularly trained to handle this type of situation in accordance with the manufacturer's procedures,” responded Air France on X.

Falling oxygen masks

In a video shared on the social network, we see the crew activate the drop of oxygen masks in the cabin, “in application of the emergency descent procedure”, explains the company.

“The customers were taken care of by Air France teams at the airport and will be rerouted to Barcelona as soon as possible,” explained Air France which “regrets the inconvenience caused by this situation and recalls that the security of its customers and its crews is its absolute imperative.”

In June 2024, a failure affected the pressurization system of a Boeing 737 Max mid-flight between South Korea and Taiwan. The pilots had no choice but to cause a fall of more than 8,000 meters. 17 people were slightly injured.
