A worrying disappearance a few hours before New Year's Eve. Tuesday, December 31 around 7:30 p.m., the Avranches gendarmerie company (Manche) received a disappearance alert.

This is Joël Amand, resident and native of Romagny-Fontenay. Four days later, the Manchois remains untraceable, so the Avranches gendarmerie launched a call for witnesses on Friday evening.

This 68-year-old man lives alone and suffers from mental disorders according to investigators. That day, he did not respond during the two daily visits from his caregiver. Described as someone discreet, but above all “resourceful” et “always on the move”, her first absence did not worry the health professional. Indeed, the Norman has the habit of walking around his town.

“He also hitchhikes when he needs to go further,” declares the squadron leader of the Avranches gendarmerie company. An element which clearly broadens the search area for investigators.

The investigations began on the evening of Tuesday, December 31 with a defined pedestrian perimeter in and around the town of more than 1,400 inhabitants. Friday morning, around thirty people gathered to take part in a hunt. “They searched every corner,” assures the squadron leader.

A dog team also came to support the gendarmes, but the searches were limited to the places that Joël Amand regularly frequented.

This Saturday, the search continues with several hearings in progress, in particular with relatives and neighbors of the missing person. The call for witnesses has already allowed the gendarmes to collect interesting information.

The investigation is therefore continuing its course, knowing that if Joël Amand got into a car on December 31, the road perimeter could be infinite.
