Ski resorts are not the only ones to have reached attendance records. The emergency rooms of the Valais Hospital were overwhelmed during the holidays: they welcomed 262 people in a single day, a new record, announced The Nouvelliste earlier this week.

Contacted, Eric Bonvin, director of the Valais Hospital, explains this significant increase in attendance by several factors: “The canton doubles, even triples, its population during the holidays.” Added to this Valais phenomenon is another: “Patients resort to emergency services for problems which are not vital and which are traditionally treated within a clinic or with the attending physician,” adds -he.
