What was feared seems to have unfortunately been confirmed: the mother who has been missing since New Year's Eve in the Drôme, as well as her 8-year-old son, are probably dead. Two bodies were in fact discovered this Friday morning in the town of Chabeuil, the Valence prosecutor's office said in a press release. It appears to be “the child and his mother sought, subject to the findings to be made”, specified the prosecutor, Laurent de Caigny. The exact circumstances of their death remain unknown at this time, he added.
The 45-year-old mother had left her home in Romans-sur-Isère, a few kilometers from Chabeuil, in an unexplained manner with her son in her car, according to relatives, explains the prosecution. The Romans-sur-Isère police officers opened an investigation on Thursday following this worrying disappearance. The first telephone, bank and video surveillance searches having yielded nothing, a press search notice, at the request of the Valencia public prosecutor's office, was published on Thursday.
The bodies near the searched car
It was near this wanted vehicle that the two bodies were discovered by the Chabreuil gendarmes this Friday, said Laurent de Caigny. The investigation, still entrusted to the Romans-sur-Isère police station, was reclassified “as deprivation of care for a minor under 15 years old by ascendant leading to death, a qualification likely to evolve depending on the findings” after the autopsies, underlines the prosecutor.
