Police officers in Le Mans (France) freed a 56-year-old man tied up in the trunk of a car parked at a gas station in Saint-Pavace, near the town of Le Mans, according to information from France Blue .

During the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, January 2, a patrol from the Le Mans Anti-Crime Brigade (BAC) spotted two hooded men filling up a car stolen some time previously in the Eure department. The police attempted to intercept the vehicle by ramming it with their own car, but the driver and his passenger fled on foot. They are still actively sought this Thursday noon.

Alerted by calls for help, officers opened the trunk of the stolen car and discovered a man tied up, doused in gasoline and disoriented. Injured after being severely beaten, his vital prognosis was however not in jeopardy. He explained that he was the victim of a homejacking (a burglary in his presence) on December 31, approximately 600 kilometers from the gas station. According to France Bleu Normandie, the victim lives in Ain, in Saint-Genis-Pouilly, near Geneva.

Still according to the French media, the victim's wife and daughter were also tied up in their house, but were not kidnapped.

A ransom demand would have been sent to the victim's son, based in Dubai, via encrypted messaging, said a source close to the matter.

The investigation, entrusted to the research section of the gendarmerie and directed by the Bourg-en-Bresse public prosecutor's office, could progress thanks to a hood abandoned by the fugitives after their flight.
