Following a call for help from a resident of Mayotteand with the support of the town hall of Lançon and Pauline Bechet, municipal councilor, a citizen mobilization took shape to help the victims. Aware of the serious difficulties encountered by the island, the municipality first launched a collection of material donations to support the inhabitants.
“I first launched an appeal on my social networks to set up a collection of essential materials. As a municipal councilor, it seemed essential to me to act to respond to the urgent needs of the population of Mayotte. Thus, with the CCAS, we organized a first collection of essential items”, explain Pauline Bechet. With exceptional responsiveness, the residents of the town mobilized, in particular to help send clothes, like this Thursday, December 19 to the resource center.
An influx of donations
A beautiful solidarity energywith a procedure well orchestrated by those responsible for the Lançon resource center: sorting, washing clothes, folding and labeling, preparation of packages and sending to Mayotte.
“As the call for solidarity spread, the number of donations quickly exceeded our forecasts. Individuals, businesses and associations responded. A big thank you to Apimiel, ADAMAL, La Bastides des Calades, Chez Louise, the Manosque hospital, Terre d'Oc, the Charles Cros trades high school, S&S moving, The Salonaise fraternity, the Forum association“, continues the chosen one.
Very quickly, it became apparent that the storage capacity of the CCAS would not be enough to manage this wave of generosity. This is how the collection was moved to the technical services in order to free up space for the donations that were pouring in.
“Important logistical support was provided by the municipality’s technical service agents, and by Giunta construction. The Lançon Re-employment resource center donated hundreds of items of clothing. To date, more than 40m3 of equipment are ready to leave for Mayotte. Solidarity and collective will between the citizens of Lançon and other cities that have joined this initiative is a model of generosity and cooperation. We remain mobilized to support Mayotte even more in the months to come.” concludes Pauline Bechet.
