As expected, a cold front crossed northern France in the last few hours, bringing sometimes sustained rain and even snow all the way to the plains in the northeast. Significant quantities of snow also affected the summits of the Vosges, with sometimes more than 20 centimeters of fresh snow fell.
The disturbance pushed southwards, giving way to a polar air mass which invaded the northern regions. With the shift in winds to the northern sector, temperatures began to drop yesterday afternoon.
This morning, under a clear sky in the far north of the country, the frosts are returning, sometimes marked, with values below -5°C. Temperatures will remain cold this afternoon, and some areas may not even experience a thaw.

Sometimes severe frosts!
This morning, behind the disturbance and under a clear sky, sometimes severe frosts have been observed.
Early this morning, we recorded -6°C at Doullens in the Somme, -5.6°C in Prunay-le-Temple in Yvelines, -5.1°C in Forges in Seine-Maritime and -4.9°C in Rueil-la-Gadelière in Eure.
At very high altitudes, temperatures are freezing, with -21.7°C measured at the Aiguille du Midi, in Chamonix.
No thaw this afternoon
The temperatures will sometimes have great difficulty improving this afternoon, and some cities may not even experience a thaw today.
It is scheduled for this afternoon 2°C in Reims, 3°C in Dijon and Nancy, 4°C in Paris and Lille, 5°C in Nantes, 6 °C in Grenoble, 7 °C in La Rochelle and Cherbourg, 9 °C in Bordeaux, Toulouse and Marseille, 11 °C in Montpellier, 12 °C in Biarritz, 14 °C in Nice, 15 °C in Perpignan and Ajaccio and 17 °C in Bastia.
Severe frost tomorrow morning
Tomorrow morning, the frosts will spread geographically and will sometimes be a little more pronounced, with more values below -5 degrees.
Tomorrow morning, frost will be widespread in the north of the country, with temperatures often below zero. They will generally be between -7 and -2 degrees. We expect -7°C in Besançon, -5°C in Reims and -1°C in Paris and Nantes.
Temperatures are expected to drop further tomorrow afternoon, with 1 to 2 degrees cooler than this Friday afternoon. The maximums will not exceed 0 to 4 degrees, i.e. values sometimes 3 to 5 degrees below seasonal norms.
Note that a very clear mild spell is expected on Sunday afternoon under the influence of southwesterly winds. Temperatures on Sunday afternoon will range from 5 to 13 degrees from north to south!
