Les Sables-d’Olonne Vendée. FLASH Yannick Moreau. The possible proponents of a radical and sudden decision

This is not the first time that Yannick Moreau has made radical decisions.

A few years ago, he had already announced that he wanted to go into the private sector, that is to say leave his public functions to pursue something else. Although he may have tanned skin, Yannick Moreau is a man like the others, suffering the weight of functions, attacks or quite simply the frustration of enduring things.
Let's take the example of his mandate as a deputy, which one could have imagined as rewarding and exciting. And yet, despite the interest in tabling bills and written questions, this mandate when one is in the opposition camp can develop a frustration whose origin is the feeling of not being able to act on the course events.

Who doesn't experience attacks? But, after 17 years of mandate from the town hall of Olonne, we can imagine that the cup is full. The episode of the three-way merger, which was accompanied by an almost permanent war with other municipal camps, was not a smooth ride…

Despite this, Yannick Moreau seemed to bounce back every time. Although it had been planned for a long time, his election at the head of ANEL Ass. of the Coastal Elected Officials seemed inconsistent as he was already very busy with his mandates as mayor and president of the Agglomeration. His passion for the sea, his desire to defend fishing, his links with other coastal elected officials were not enough to explain this decision. Some already saw it as a folding seat for a future leather boat of the Sea. But there are many contenders on the coast.

Others, including us, saw him approaching future presidential candidates whose ideas he shared. David Lisnard was one of them. Whatever his decisions today, we remain convinced that any proposal within this movement would be seriously studied by Yannick Moreau.
But, to this day, Yannick Moreau – after passing on the responsibilities of mayor and president of Agglo – only considers a private life after his public life (in the event of resignation, it is the 1st deputy who takes over after acceptance of the resignation by the Prefect). The 1st deputy is Armel Pécheul who would therefore be likely to manage current affairs between September 2025 and the municipal elections in March 2026, i.e. 7 months).
This private life project therefore automatically puts aside any political activity….

We won't say the decision is surprising. We know that more and more elected officials and especially mayors are resigning, exhausted by the constraints and difficulties of exercising their mandate.
However, despite this, not so long ago Yannick Moreau seemed to be calmly considering a candidacy for the next municipal elections. We are not saying here that he announced it officially, but it seemed obvious given his words.

So, what could have changed the situation? In such a short time!
We only see one thing.
If we take the personal causes of the resignations of mayors – but also of other elected officials – we note that the mandate often encroaches on personal life, but there is also often incivility and violence with sometimes repercussions on a family circle could also find himself a victim.

However, recently, Yannick Moreau announced that he had once again been the victim of a death threat.
This happened on April 26, 2024, in an email box, then again, recently, by mail.
Over the last four years, said Yannick Moreau, I have been the victim of 10 acts of insult, defamation or threats, including 2 death threats.

The mayor then denounced “the unacceptable violence of the political debate in our country. (…). This is unacceptable. Even though I have experience, I don't get used to it. Violence and intimidation of public authorities have no place in our country. This can't go on any longer! »

Was this second death threat the trigger for the sudden decision taken by Yannick Moreau, tired, worn out, by the unacceptable behavior of certain people? Did he want to protect his loved ones from the torment that these behaviors can cause?

In any case, he has decided to move on, to move away from a public life, certainly attractive and exciting, but which certainly puts a strain on his family life.
