At least 87 vehicles caught fire in Brest in 2024. In the same way as in 2022, the Brest editorial team of Le Télégramme kept up to date, based on its information, a map of all the cars and other vehicles that caught fire between the nights of New Year's Eve 2023 and 2024. One observation: no district of the city has really been spared by car fires, even if more persistent pockets can be located in the Pontanézen or Keredern districts.
If the count for the year 2023 is made particularly complex by the episode of urban riots at the beginning of the summer, one thing is certain: the toll remains lower in 2024. Which obviously does not take away the distress, the indignation and anger of victims like those affected during the night of Tuesday February 20 to Wednesday February 21, 2024, during which no less than ten vehicles caught fire. “It was my first small car. I need it every day to take the children to school and especially to work: I am a home helper. I can’t afford to buy another one,” a 24-year-old young woman testified to Le Télégramme.
In 2023, the nights alone from the end of June to the beginning of July during the urban violence which broke out in Brest are not far from reaching, in themselves, the results of 2024 with nights like that of July 1 to 2 during which 25 cars had burned.
On the other hand, if we look at the data listed in 2022, the number of vehicles burned is generally stable: 89 at the time.
