The Chinese steel giant, Jingye Group, is aiming for a strategic involvement in the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project, a major project aimed at weaving an energy link between West Africa, Morocco, and Europe. According to the deputy director of Jingye’s international marketing department, Zhang Yuanyuan, the group aims to provide high-quality steel products, essential to this infrastructure promoted by Morocco and Nigeria and their partners.

Jingye Group plans to make its expertise and advanced materials available to the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project through its British subsidiary, Jingye British Steel, acquired in 2020. This subsidiary, recognized for its role in prestigious international projects such as Beijing Daxing Airport and the Crossrail project in the United Kingdom will provide solutions tailored to this complex project.

The gas pipeline, estimated to cost $26 billion and supported by international financial institutions such as the Islamic Development Bank and the OPEC Fund, is seen as an engine of energy and economic development in Africa. the west. It aims in particular to improve access to natural gas for African countries on the Atlantic coast between Nigeria and Morocco while strengthening energy integration with Europe. This project is also expected to stimulate regional economic growth and attract investment in sustainable infrastructure.

It should be noted that the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) plans to launch calls for tenders for the parts of the gas pipeline falling within the 1,672 kilometer route concerning the Kingdom in 2025. The first phase of the project will include Morocco , Mauritania and Senegal

Beyond this desire to contribute to this gigantic project, Jingye Group has established itself as a leading global player in the steel industry. Based in Hebei province, the group produces 15 million tonnes of steel annually and exports its products to more than 80 countries. Among its flagship achievements are the Brunei Transoceanic Bridge, the Shijiazhuang Metro, and projects related to the Three Gorges in China.
