200 hunters checked and 31 offenses noted.

From December 7 to 15, a large-scale operation around hunting safety was carried out by the French Biodiversity Office (OFB) in Haute-Corse, in conjunction with the gendarmerie and customs.

“On this occasion, the agents checked active hunters in the field but also during road checks in order to check in particular the conditions of transport of the weapon. The operations were carried out day and night mainly in the municipalities of Lucciana, Vescovato, Lama, Cervione, Lumio and Montegrosso”details the OFB in a press release.

Among the 31 violations noted, the office notes 2 offenses, namely the transport without legitimate reason of a category C weapon” et 29 hunting offenses. This concerns 4th class fines: “transport on board a vehicle of a weapon not placed in a case, non-compliance with the safety requirements of the Departmental Hunting Management Scheme (SDGC), transport without prior marking of an animal captured within the maximum authorized harvest” .

In total, 15% of hunters checked were fined. A number “down compared to last year (25%) when a similar operation was carried out” but who nevertheless remains “too high”.

The percentage rises to 31% for only hunters controlled in the field, “which represents an increase compared to 2023”.

This operation carried out in Haute-Corse is part of a large-scale national operation around compliance with hunting safety rules for hunters and non-hunters, which was held from November 30 to 15 December, for the fourth consecutive year.

It responds to one of the missions entrusted to the OFB by the State, namely “continue to reduce the number of accidents and incidents occurring in the context of hunting”.

Beyond this operation, the Office considers “that in Haute-Corse, if the results of hunting accidents were not favorable in recent years, the current year is, for the moment, going well with the absence of deaths and accidents severe”.

Other controls relating to hunting safety are planned in the department, indicates the OFB, also ensuring that this subject is a priority shared with the departmental federations of Corsican hunters”.
