Responding to a question on “Increasing university accommodation capacities”, presented by the Istiqlalien Group of Unity and Egalitarianism during the oral questions session, the minister specified that eight university residences totaling 6,400 beds have been opened so far.

These structures were created as part of strengthening the university accommodation offer with the involvement of the private sector, he explained, adding that the ministry is working on “the development of a new vision which will allow the creation of new generation university residences, in partnership with the various stakeholders, actors, partners, private sector, regional councils and local authorities within the framework of advanced regionalization”.

Mr. El Midaoui also reported on the ongoing renovation of old university campuses, while other campuses, in good condition, require some maintenance work. He also noted that the new cities perfectly meet the required standards in this area.

He also recalled the inauguration of the university campuses in Kénitra and Taza and the extension of the university campus in Nador, noting that work is underway to complete projects in Mohammedia and Al Hoceïma.

Other similar projects, which will be financed by the African Development Bank, will see the light of day in Béni Mellal, Taroudant, Larache, Oujda and Safi, with a capacity of 7,500 beds.
