The Peugeot e-208 is resisting. Produced since 2019, it has managed to remain the second best-selling electric car in in 2024, behind the Tesla Model Y. This great performance, which the e-208 owes in particular to the success of social leasing, could nevertheless be difficult to achieve. repeat in 2025. And for good reason, the electric city car segment is on the move with many new models, Renault 5 E-Tech in the lead.

Since 2022, the e-208 has gained a new version of 156 hp with a 51 kWh total capacity battery, improving, among other things, its autonomy. However, it is with its oldest configuration, with a 136 hp engine and 50 kWh battery, that the e-208 attempts to maintain its competitiveness. Thus, Peugeot has just lowered the price of its 136 hp e-208 Style by €6,100, the entry-level version of the electric city car, but which is already relatively well equipped. Surprisingly, the rest of the range has not seen its prices change by one euro.

The Peugeot e-208 drops to €28,000 excluding bonuses

With this significant discount, the e-208 is now priced from €28,000 excluding bonus (from €2,000 to €4,000 in 2025), placing it opposite the Renault 5 E-Tech in intermediate version 120 hp urban autonomy , sold from €27,990 excluding bonus.

The 136 hp/50 kWh version of the e-208 is certainly not the most modern, but it retains certain arguments against its rival from Renault. Thus, at this price, the Peugeot is more powerful (136 hp compared to 120 hp for this version of the R5), offers more autonomy (363 compared to 312 km of autonomy) and greater direct current charging power (100 against 80 kW), as well as longer warranty coverage (up to 8 years or 160,000 km, compared to 2 years with unlimited mileage at Renault). The R5 is certainly equipped as standard with a heat pump, optional on the e-208, and an 11 kW onboard charger (7.4 kW as standard for the e-208), but this second argument has little value in France, since single-phase installations do not allow charging power to exceed 7.4 kW.

For the rest, both models have advantages and disadvantages. The R5 offers better driving pleasure and more modern on-board technologies, but it is less habitable. Hopefully Peugeot also adjusts the pricing of other versions of its e-208, giving customers more choice.
