This Wednesday, January 1, the sirens will remain silent in Aveyron. Explanations.
It's a habit in France. Every first Wednesday of the month, the Population Alert and Information System (SAIP) rings between 11:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., everywhere in France. A system put in place after the war to warn the population of dangers.
A postponement until Wednesday January 8
Every first Wednesday of the month, an emergency siren test is carried out, but not on this first day of the year. “As the first Wednesday of January 2025 is a public holiday, the monthly test is postponed to Wednesday January 8, 2025 at 12:15 p.m., indicates the prefecture of Aveyron. The monthly tests of warning sirens relating to the State, municipalities and industrial establishments other than hydraulic developments take place on the first Wednesday of each month.”
33 municipalities concerned in Aveyron
In Aveyron, 33 municipalities have a SAIP, depending on the risks present: Argence-en-Aubrac, Aubin, Boisse-Penchot, Bouillac, Brommat, Capdenac-Gare, Comps-Lagrand'ville, Conques-en-Rouergue, Decazeville , Entraygues-sur-Truyère, Espalion, Estaing, Flagnac, Flavin, Livinhac-le-Haut, Millau, Pont-de-Salars, Saint-Affrique, Saint-Amans-des-Cots, Saint-Come d'Olt, Saint-Just-sur-Viaur, Saint-Parthem, Sebrazac, Therondels, Villefranche-de-Panat, Viviez.
The Aveyron prefecture reminds that in the event of a ringing, outside of Wednesday tests, it is necessary “immediately return to an enclosed room, preferably without windows, carefully blocking openings if possible (slots, doors, vents, chimneys, etc.); stop the air conditioning, heating and ventilation; listen to the radio”.
