A terrible tragedy marked the evening of Friday December 27 on VDN3. According to The Observera young mechanic, Pape Conté, was violently mowed down, dragged 300 meters, then left lifeless by a vehicle driven by a group of seven young people called blowmen. Under the influence of alcohol and drugs, their party trip turned into carnage.
A shock of rare violence
Sitting peacefully on a post at the edge of the sidewalk, Pape Conté had no idea that he was living his last moments. On this axis linking Hamo 4 to Malibu, a Ford Taurus car appeared at lightning speed, hitting the young man with incredible violence. The uncontrolled vehicle threw the victim 300 meters before ending its journey in chaotic surroundings.
The horrified witnesses described an unrecognizable body, mutilated by the impact. The car, for its part, rolled over several times, its tires stuck in the air, one of them bursting. According to The Observerthe six other passengers, including three boys and three girls, were visibly drunk and struggling to get out of the vehicle.
Anger and tensions on site
The scene triggered strong anger among local residents, revolted by the irresponsibility of these young people. The driver, the target of a threatening crowd, was narrowly extricated by a police motorcyclist. But the situation almost degenerated when one of the girls, arrogantly, claimed to be the daughter of a prosecutor and assured that they were in no danger.
A disturbing discovery
The interior of the vehicle revealed a shocking scene. According to The Observerlatest generation drugs, bottles of cellulose thinner, shutters (inhaled drugs) and condoms were found there. Rented by the group for a festive trip, the car became the scene of a human drama.
Justice and popular indignation
Pape Conté’s family, overwhelmed by pain, expressed their anger on social networks, demanding that justice be done. This tragedy revives the debate on road insecurity and the irresponsible behavior which regularly plagues the roads of Dakar.
The victim’s body remains at the Idrissa Pouye hospital for autopsy, while the blowmen are in police custody, questioned about the circumstances of the tragedy. But for the inhabitants of Guédiawaye, a question remains: how many more lives will be sacrificed on this deadly axis before serious measures are taken?
