A man in his fifties was beaten to death on Wednesday January 1 in broad daylight in Apt in Vaucluse, “ici Vaucluse” (formerly France Bleu Vaucluse) reported on Thursday. A fight took place in downtown Apt. Emergency services discovered an unconscious man on a public road at midday. The man showed numerous marks of beatings. He was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries later that day.
The gendarmes from the Apt research brigade, responsible for the investigation, identified the alleged perpetrator of the attacks. It is a man, also aged around fifty, from the Paris region. The suspect was on board a train heading to Paris on Wednesday afternoon. The police, who were at Saint-Exupéry station in Lyon, were alerted. The police arrested the individual on the train. The man is currently in police custody. A murder investigation has been opened by the Avignon public prosecutor's office. The victim's autopsy is scheduled to take place Friday.
