$30,500 in fines targeting 32 restaurants in Laval

During 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ) issued notices of condemnation to 32 restaurants and food establishments in .

The total fines issued amounted to $30,500 for this same period.

Last year, 30 Laval food establishments were targeted by disciplinary measures from the MAPAQ. They shared a bill of $49,000.

The most punished

The Laval restaurant Cuisine Kung Fu Légende, which was located at 1800 Saint-Martin Boulevard West, received four fines from MAPAQ in 2024. This represents a peak in the region. The total amount is $2,000 in fines.

The fines issued date back to May and June 2022, but the official judgment was handed down this year. The establishment has since closed its doors.

Two of the fines, which were received a month apart, are explained by “an establishment whose premises, equipment, materials and utensils used for the preparation, storage and service of the products do not were not clean,” we can read on the MAPAQ website.

The other two fines were issued because the surfaces of the equipment, which come into direct contact with the products, were not exempt from detachable particles, roughness or cracks.

Place Tevere inc., the Scores de Vimont rotisserie, as well as the butcher shop Saucisses et Salami Mondial Inc. are the only three other locations to have accumulated at least two fines in 2024. The totals of these amount respectively to 2000, 1500 and 1250$.

For its part, the Romcafé resto-bar, located at 1802, boulevard des Laurentides, received a fine of $2,000, which represents the highest amount of the year for a single infraction. This dated February 2022. At that time, the owner would have carried out the activity of restaurateur without holding a current permit.

Other offenses

12 places targeted by the MAPAQ were instead fined, because the place was not free of all species of animals, including rodents, insects and their excrement. In 2023, only 6 establishments had received such a fine.

The places concerned are:

  • Antilles Market Inc. (1825, boulevard des Laurentides);
  • Place Tevere inc. (3035, boulevard Le Carrefour) – 2 times;
  • Garderie La Belle Aventure 1993 (3852, boulevard Notre-Dame);
  • Papou Pita Pizza (536, rue Principale);
  • Tau Natural Foods Market (3216 Saint-Martin Boulevard West);
  • Garderie Kids Laval (1141, boulevard Lesage);
  • Café Romy (3003, boulevard Le Carrefour);
  • Poulet Rouge (3035, boulevard Le Carrefour);
  • Rôtisserie Scores Vimont (1135, boulevard des Laurentides);
  • Aubut Food Distribution inc. (3975, boulevard Saint-Elzéar west);
  • Résidence Gingras inc. (67, avenue du Parc);
  • La Belle Province (1900, boulevard Dagenais).

Among the most common violations were storage problems, a lack of precautions regarding products that could be damaged by heat, as well as the use of premises, equipment and materials used for preparation that were not clean.

5 of the 32 locations that received a ticket from MAPAQ have now closed their doors.
