The new port of Nador will have to welcome its first ship in mid-2026, assures the general director of the Nador West Med Company (SNWM), Mohamed Jamal Benjelloun.
The infrastructure work is currently completed and efforts are now focused on the development and installation of equipment, explains Mr. Benjelloun, quoted by local media.
During a meeting on investment in the province, he explained that Nador West Med is already attracting the attention of international operators and agreements have been signed with international companies, including a Chinese company.

Indeed, Mohamed Jamal Benjelloun refers to the Aeolon group, specializing in the manufacture of wind turbine blades, which is building its first factory outside of China in Nador, for an investment of around 2.3 billion dirhams.
In terms of capacity, this infrastructure will make it possible to process 3 million containers (twenty-foot TEU equivalent) annually, with the possibility of increasing this capacity by 2 million additional containers. It will also be able to process 25 million tonnes of hydrocarbons, 7 million tonnes of coal and 3 million tonnes of various goods.

The first phase will include, among other things, a container terminal with a 1,520 m quay, a depth of 18 m and a 76 ha land area, a hydrocarbon terminal with 3 oil stations 20 m deep and a coal terminal with a 360 m quay and a depth of 20 m.
In June 2024, SNWM and Marsa Maroc, the national port operator, concluded a 25-year concession agreement for the operation of the Nador West Med East Container Terminal, with a capacity of 3.4 million EVP.

The terminal, with 1,520 linear meters of quay, a depth of 18 meters and 70 hectares of land, will ultimately be equipped with 15 quay gantries (STS) and 45 park gantries (RTG) of the latest technology. generation.
Marsa Maroc will invest 200 million euros for the first phase of the East Container Terminal, which is scheduled to come into service in 2027. The operator will rely on its expertise and relationships with global trading partners to ensure the success of the terminal.
