One case closed, others opening. Daily life is decidedly tense in Équevillon, particularly between the Marandet family, father and son, and the mayor of the town, Gérard Authier. On October 25, the latter was in fact the subject of a complaint for “endangering the lives of others”. The author of this complaint, Damien Marandet, accused him of having wanted to rush at him while he was walking his dog near the local village hall.

“Thanks to the use of video surveillance, the complaint filed by Mr. Marandet has already been dismissed by the public prosecutor for lack of an offense,” Gérard Authier informs today. A conclusion confirmed by the gendarmes who carried out this investigation. The complainant, however, counted on these images for the fault to be materialized.

A “slanderous denunciation”

“I have always been calm about the outcome of this affair”, underlines today the mayor, who was interviewed two weeks after the complaint was filed and explains that he simply “swerved onto the road with his car to park along the barrier.”

The story won't end there. Gérard Authier underlines that he will file a complaint in the coming days against Damien Marandet but also against his father Max, well known in Champagnole for his provocative posters. “I am going to file a complaint in my turn for defamatory remarks spread by Mr. Marandet and the intolerable slanderous denunciation of which he is guilty,” underlines the elected official about the son. As for the father, he accuses him of being the author of a “malicious and filthy leaflet” distributed in the town.
