SENEGAL-POLITICS / Ousmane Sonko salutes the Senegalese’s attachment to democracy – Senegalese Press Agency

Dakar, Dec 27 (APS) – The head of government on Friday paid tribute to the Senegalese people for their attachment to democracy which they demonstrated twice to the world in 2024.

“In this year 2024, the Senegalese have shown, twice, to the world that we are a great people, a great democracy,” underlined Ousmane Sonko in his general policy declaration.

The Prime Minister alludes in particular to the various political developments which led to the holding of a presidential election and transparent legislative elections.

Many Senegalese citizens have been imprisoned and others have paid with their lives during various politically motivated events that have shaped the country over a long period.

“Many have doubted, but the majority of Senegalese have never done so. We looked to the future because it held hope. We faced challenges to move forward. Move forward so as never to sink,” argued Mr. Sonko.

He particularly praised the fact that the Senegalese nation did not allow itself to be lost in doubt.

“We are a great people, driven by an unshakeable faith and pursuing a common goal through the contribution of all: the construction of a great country that counts in the concert of nations,” the Prime Minister insisted to the deputies.

He praised a democratic model which has remained standing thanks to the resilience of millions of Senegalese, from east to west, from north to south.

»Our precious democracy faltered, but held on, thank God. Tribute to the Senegalese people, in particular its youth, for the struggle they waged to preserve this democratic model. This vital force for democratic resistance, dear young people, dear citizens, we must now mobilize it for the development of the country,” indicated the head of government.

He did not fail to invite the Senegalese not to be afraid to question our certainties. “Let’s not be afraid of change,” he told them.
