“I learned about the Prime Minister’s visit from the press, I am not aware of what they are going to do there,” lamented Saïd Omar Oili, senator (RDPI, presidential majority) from Mayotte, Thursday December 26, on franceinfo. A little earlier in the day, Matignon announced that Prime Minister François Bayrou will visit the archipelago on Sunday and Monday, accompanied by several ministers.

The Mahorais senator nevertheless received a phone call a few hours ago from the new Minister of Overseas Territories, Manuel Valls, who will accompany the Prime Minister to Mayotte. “He called and said Friday afternoon he wants to have a conference call with me”says Saïd Omar Oili. But the elected parliamentarian does not know what the government will propose during this two-day visit.

To clarify the situation in Mayotte, the senator asks “a parliamentary commission of inquiry to find out exactly what happened there and how we managed this crisis.” Because Saïd Omar Oili denounces “flaws” in the “crisis management” in Mayotte.

He also wishes to highlight a “contradiction” between announcements from the Ministry of the Interior or those from the prefecture of Mayotte regarding the distribution of food, water and/or the re-supply of electricity in homes. “I received photos and films of food distributions: it’s sardines and water!”the senator chokes.

On Monday, the authorities announced the distribution of 390,000 liters of water and 65 tonnes of food. “We have a population of 319,000, or even 320,000 people. Do the calculation yourself… In ten days, we distributed one liter of water per person”deplores the senator from the presidential majority.

“There are lots of people who don’t have food, there are lots of people who don’t have water, there are lots of people who are still sleeping under the stars”relates Saïd Omar Oili. “So to say that the situation is improving… For me, that’s not the information I have”he assures.
