Were the packages poorly thought out? Invited to the Mayotte La 1ère plateau this Thursday morning, RN MP Anchya Bamana expressed her anger regarding the aid provided to the Mahorais, more than 10 days after the passage of the deadly cyclone Chido.
Referring to the fate of the inhabitants of the archipelago who “suffer because they have no water, no food, no electricity”, she first judged that the consequences of the cyclone had been “under -estimated”.
“The basket (help) is made of flour, while families have no electricity,” she continued. “What are we going to do with this flour, oil, sugar and noodles? As long as we don't have electricity in the house, do you really think it's a basket for people who are suffering? » protested the elected official, in reference to the food aid packages distributed in the archipelago.
She asked instead for “canned goods, eggs, tuna, sardines” and asked for the electricity to be restored. “It’s an emergency,” insisted the elected representative of the National Rally. She also took advantage of her visit to the Mayotte La 1ère plateau to demand “drinking water, bottled water so that residents can drink without being sick or, failing that, that tanks be distributed in the neighborhoods.”
Anchya Bamana assured that she felt “a lot of anger towards the state officials who hide the reality of Mayotte, towards the Presidency of the Republic”. The elected RN also assured that the 39 deaths – the official provisional toll at present – were “underestimated”.
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister, François Bayrou, explained that he thought “that the alarmist and sometimes terrifying figures which have been put forward will not be verified in reality”. According to him, the “number of victims is counted in tens and not thousands”.
