This mother is going through hell. The house she rents in Montigny-en-Gohelle (Pas-de-Calais) has had no doors or windows for several days. And the situation does not seem to be evolving in the right direction.
Sandrine Lemaire lives in accommodation in Montigny-en-Gohelle, with her partner and two daughters. Last week, craftsmen came to remove the front door and windows, on the orders of the owner of the premises. The latter pretended to want to change them to carry out insulation work. However, the workers have still not returned to complete the work.
“I feel empty”
At the microphone of TF1, the mother did not hide her anger and her dismay. She said she felt “empty” by the unbearable situation she has been going through for a week. “It’s still December,” she also stressed.
To protect herself from the cold, she sealed the openings with cardboard. But this does not prevent air from entering the interior of the home. And the workers still haven't returned to install the new windows.
For his part, the owner no longer even bothers to answer his tenant's calls and TF1 has not been able to contact him either. “The owner had already warned me: I have to leave, I have to rehouse someone in my family,” Sandrine Lemaire explained to our colleagues. She is in fact convinced that the man is using this method – completely illegal – to evict his entire family and recover his property.
She filed a complaint for breach of trust
To no longer live in these indecent conditions and in this house now considered unsanitary, Sandrine began looking for social housing. At the same time, she filed a complaint for breach of trust. She also decided to turn to the town hall and the prefecture.
Me Carolone Laverdet, lawyer at the Paris bar, declared to the television channel that by appealing to the prefect, he will be able to order the owner, via a decree, “the essential measures to put an end to this danger immediately, in a deadline that he will set.” “And it can also force the owner to rehouse the tenants, or even to compensate them,” she concluded.
