UNUSUAL – An incident that raises a lot of questions. In a story worthy of a film script, a man managed to get onto the tarmac of Nice airport, in the Alpes-Maritimes, via… the baggage conveyor belt, revealed this Tuesday December 23 The Parisian et Nice-Morning.

The events took place on Sunday between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. A homeless man from Var, aged 23, arrived at the airport and managed to pass through the baggage carousel to try to take a plane, neither seen nor known. Nice-Morning specifies that the man would have crossed the suitcase processing room then landed on the tarmac. This is where he was arrested.

Few details are provided about its shipment, but many questions arise about airport security as the baggage handling room is monitored and manned by other staff.

The man said he wanted to go to Tunisia to see his family

In police custody, he reportedly said he wanted entering the hold of a plane to return to Tunisia to see his family”, said Deputy Public Prosecutor Sabine Néale. She specifies that“no object was found on him”.

The incident did not go unnoticed. For example, a passenger who was about to board a plane told Nice-Morning having seen “ people running in all directions” while she was on the bridge. The plane's pilot then explained to the passengers “that someone had wanted to hide in the hold of the plane”.

Initially simply delayed, the Easy Jet plane ultimately never took off. The young man, who admitted the facts, is expected in court on June 6, 2025 for the offense of unauthorized intrusion into the airside area of ​​an airport.
