Who is holding back the opening of the Les Arcs/Zac des Bréguières line, when the infrastructure exists and its feasibility has been proven? Nobody a priori. Except that its commissioning is still pending.
Thanks to a demonstration against the reorganizations within the SNCF, the railway workers, in red chasubles striped with yellow, demonstrated a few days ago in front of the Les Arcs/Draguignan railway station to make their voices heard. And their choices. Particularly on the development of the Zac des Breguières.
“Here, in Arcs-sur-Argens, the Bréguières logistics platform is an example of ecological aberration and theft of public money “, immediately booms Steven Crocquefer, general secretary of the Les Arcs railway workers, into the microphone.
“A solution against pollution”
He explains: “Ecological aberration, why? Quite simply because this platform, which is constantly expanding, creates a continuous increase in the number of trucks, and the inconveniences that go with it such as pollution, deterioration of infrastructure, traffic jams, increasing road risk. The Bréguières area has, however, been well and truly equipped for years with a rail line dedicated to freight! “.
In fact, during all these years, the line has only been used… once. And you don't have to go back very far. This line was used on April 9, 2024, to supply 840 tonnes of pipes ordered by the town of Les Arcs (read our April 9 edition).
For activists, this line opening would only have advantages “ time when global warming must be a global priority. the time when the employment situation is critical. Indeed, the use of this line would lead to the creation of jobs in the Arcs basin while bringing improvements to our quality of life. “
Continuing the Prévert-style list, the CGT then puts the finger where it hurts: to the wallet, in strong terms.
“There was a waste of public money. For what? This line was co-financed by the European Union and Dracénie Provence Verdon Agglomération, or by us, residents. For an amount of three million euros excluding taxes. This public money has therefore not been used to improve our living environment. Nor to act in favor of ecology. No, it simply served to attract these capitalist companies, while allowing the region and the community of municipalities to make us believe that they cared about the environment. This is clearly “greenwashing” with public funds!”
So much for the demands.
