At first glance, it's a very classic meal in an equally classic restaurant. Except that for students, the daily special is almost free. “It’s quality food, a restaurant dish for 2 euros. You can’t see it elsewhere”underlines Aëlwenn, a student who regularly comes to take advantage of the offer.

“For now, this is my first restaurant in Grenoble. Restaurant dishes for 20 euros, it's complicated for students. We don't really have any income.”adds Alex, a foreign student who is coming for the first time. On the menu that day, chicken with mushroom sauce. Almost a celebratory meal.

This solidarity initiative mobilizes well beyond the restaurant kitchens. “We know all our suppliers, they have been involved in our stories for a very long time, so they let us know when they have, for example, a chicken breast at a great price and sometimes even on offer”explains Pierre Pavy, restaurateur at Ici Grenoble.

This work to combat precariousness is carried out with the Food Bank which has listed the most precarious students. Because in Grenoble, one in four students skips meals every week. They can go up to once a week to Ici Grenoble.

Very quickly, the 2 euro menu built up a loyal clientele. “It was almost necessary, in the period in which we live, to be of service to the 65 000 students who live in Grenoble. (…) Some people who came here hadn't eaten at the restaurant for 10 years.”according to Pierre Pavy.

“The meal is meant to give these people a little hope. It's not about making money or bringing in customers. We don't wait for them, we're always full. But we gives an easy time to people who are waiting for this”adds the restaurateur. The opportunity to offer a warm moment to these students, three Saturdays per month, until next March.
