An original idea for Christmas was imagined in Versailles (Yvelines). Several traders of the rue du Vieux-Versailles have worked together to make “Made in Versailles” gifts for the end-of-year celebrations.
In 2023, there were six of them to launch this initiative. For this second edition, there are ten of them. Inside the boxes and bags, the know-how of each is represented.
Support local business
Although he has been present in the same place for thirty-five years, Jean-Michel Lazard, from the Naurhtica workshop, decided to join the adventure this year. “I created 27 sculptures of Marie Antoinettein several colors. A week of preparation in 3D was necessary,” he explains. “I supplied the leather straps for the bags and the rivets,” adds Mehmet Sena Karasu, the director of the Vieux-Versailles shoe repair shop.
The Philippe Guérin workshop (restoration of antique furniture) and Murmure (coffee shop) are also part of this 2024 edition.
“Limited editions”
Despite a more substantial contribution, the cost of a 100% Christmas box on rue du Vieux-Versailles remains the same: 60 €.
The curious will be able to find coffee, a decoration, a sweet treat, a book or even a greeting card. “In order to reconnect, to establish a correspondence for the holidays,” underlines Christophe, from the Badani workshop.
“These are limited editions. Each bag or box is unique. »
Two boxes to win
It’s also an opportunity to stroll through this street, to discover it. “I have been living here for forty-four years,” testifies the craftsman from Aux Tapissiers Réunés. Before, we just greeted each other, but with this initiative a new spirit, of kindness and exchanges is established. We need to make this street known. »
Two Christmas boxes are up for grabs, one via a competition launched by the Versailles tourist office and the second via coupons available from participating merchants. Participation forms can be submitted until December 24, 2024before the draw.
