SOLIDARITY MAYOTTE – How to act after the passage of Cyclone Chido in Mayotte
Following the deadly and devastating passage of Cyclone Chido on the island of Mayotte, Philippe Mahé, prefect of Var, expresses his emotion and full support to the victims and their loved ones,
particularly to members of the Mahorese and Comorian communities established in the department.
The prefecture of Mayotte is fully mobilized as well as that of Reunion in charge of transport to Mayotte, the priority being on access to the island for relief and the essential continuity of local public services for the benefit of the population. A surge of generosity has taken place throughout the territory.
For local authorities, two methods of intervention are available to them in terms of national solidarity in order to support emergency and reconstruction actions in Mayotte:
– Firstly, communities can pay monetary aid to an existing specific competition fund, under the reference 1-2-00498 “Various contributions for the benefit of the territories
and overseas populations affected by natural calamities.
The payment of donations to this fund allows the State to group together all the aid received, whether from communities, businesses or citizens, and thus to coordinate and strengthen the effectiveness of the use of these financial resources for Mayotte. The funds received must then contribute to public interest expenditure and be mobilized in accordance with the wishes of the contributing parties, namely emergency and reconstruction actions in Mayotte.
– Secondly, communities can make their donations:
to associations and foundations recognized as being of public utility (Foundation of France, Civil Protection, Secours Populaire, SOS Group, Catholic Relief, Doctors of the World, French Red Cross, CARE France, Apprentis d'Auteuil foundation, Solidarités International, etc.
> to national associations of local elected officials who can receive these donations and ensure payment to organizations of general interest.
For individuals, monetary aid is preferred for the moment, as long as the logistics chain serving Mayotte has not returned to normal.
They are invited to contact associations and foundations recognized as being of public utility and associations approved by Civil Security such as:
The Fondation de France: https://www.fondationdefrance.org/fr/solidarite-mayotte
