With 14 votes in favor and 6 blank ballots Ezio Maria Simonelli has been elected as the new president of the Lega Serie A: he is the successor of Lorenzo Casini. In the second elective assembly today (Friday 20 December), in the headquarters in via Rosellini, the accountant born in 1958 received more votes than the last two elected presidents, respectively Dal Pino (12 votes) and Casini (11 votes). As regards the other positions at the top of the League, from the CEO to the League and federal councilors, the expected quorum was not reached.
Simonelli new president of the League
At the first vote Simonelli, Silvio Berlusconi's historic accountanthad stopped at 11 votes. In the second round he managed to bring on his figure three other clubs necessary to obtain the quorum to be elected. Simonelli has already been regent of the Serie A League, while he attempted to run for the presidency of the Serie B three years ago, coming out defeated by Mauro Balata.

This the press release from the League after the election of Simonelli: “The second elective Assembly of the Lega Serie A bodies was held today, which expressed itself with 14 votes, reaching the quorum expected in favor of Dr. Ezio Simonelli as President. In the next few days the independence requirements established by the Statute will be verified. For all the other positions a vote was carried out, without reaching the quorum required by the Statute on second call. One was called for these positions new assembly next January 10th“.
Who is Ezio Simonelli
Lorenzo Casini had decided not to run again at the helm of the body that brings together the elite of Italian football. Simonelli, from Macerata, was born in 1980 graduate in economics and business at the University of Perugia. Having moved to Milan, in his role as an accountant he collaborated with Silvio Berlusconi, becoming part – among other things – of the galaxy of companies that revolved around the former prime minister. It is, in fact, member of the boards of auditors of, among others, Mondadori and Mediaset. He is also president – we read in his bio published by Mondadori – of the board of auditors of the Sisal group, the most important Italian company in the gambling field.

“Today the most important thing is to have elected Simonelli as president who will be proclaimed after verification of the requirements. We are confident, because he respected the criteria for running.” Inter president Beppe Marotta said it. “It is important that today 14 companies have expressed a desire for renewal which – without affecting people – must be implemented quickly, this is an important fact”he added. On the 6 blank sheets and the strategies to be implemented for the growth of Italian football, Marotta underlined that “there will be a discussion within us, we will also have to do self-criticism, but we want to all be united to identify a strategy for the right recognition of an industrial sector that does not deserve to be mistreated”. “Serie A and football is a very important world and today we are not recognized for what we are. The priority is to identify a unified strategy for this renewal”concluded Marotta. –
