Niort
Reze

In , Kévin Bassoko is convinced that he has found the best place to progress. Arriving in the summer of 2023 in Deux-Sèvres, the player has already experienced a rapid rise to the first team. Now well established in Nationale 2, the Cameroonian has taken on a new role for this 2024-2025 season.

“With the many departures, I became a veteran of the team alongside Luka (Randria)Hugo (Praise)Joachim (Martin) and Alain (Ditches) Of coursesmiles Kévin Bassoko, well aware that an important match takes place on Sunday December 22 against Rezé. This allowed me to evolve because I took on responsibilities, I have to pull the group up. »

Indeed, Kévin Bassoko finds himself with the leadership hat, exchanging much more with his teammates on and off the field. “We’re not going to lie, the level is lower than last season but we are creating a good team. Playing alone is no use.”affirms the Niort player, who also wants to share his passion by training the VBPN departmental youth team twice a week.

Alongside Alain Fossi, his idol

The adventure in Niort is all the more precious since Kévin Bassoko evolves alongside Alain Fossi, sometimes coach and sometimes team. “It was he who made me want to work a lot more when I was still in a training center in Cameroon”explains the 22-year-old man, trained at Cameroon Sports Volleyball in Yaoundé.

It was in the political capital of Cameroon that he saw Alain Fossi evolve, while Bassoko was only a young ball boy. “I watched his game carefully to become a little like him, he was a youth idol, someone I admired. He was a libero so I wanted to occupy the same position”he slips.

However, the Cameroonian plays as a receiver-attacker with the VBPN. “This position better suits the needs of the team, we already have a very good libero in Luka”thinks Kévin Bassoko, who reserves his role as libero for the selections with the Cameroon team.

“In all cases, you have to be very good at receiving, underlines the Niortais. I only have to add to that some good attacking sequences and good serves, but it needs to be worked on. » Even if there is no international competition before 2026, Kévin Bassoko does not intend to relax to be at his best level in Niort. The honor of rubbing shoulders with his idol is not to be underestimated according to the ambitious player.
