What is the perimeter of the ZFE in ?

The Bordeaux ZFE will apply to theintra-ring roadthat is to say the entire territory inside the ring road. This remains free of access for all vehicles. THE 11 park-and-ride facilities (P + R) located in the area will be accessible to unclassified vehicles via special lanes. A regulatory signage will be put in place between January and June 2025 to clearly demarcate this area.

The Crit’Air sticker: mandatory to travel in the ZFE

All vehicles entering the ZFE must be equipped with a vignette Crit’Air. Here are the steps to obtain this sticker:

The sticker attributes a environmental classification depending on the age and fuel of the vehicle. Unclassified vehicles (registered before 1997 for cars) will no longer be able to circulate within the intra-ring road.

What vehicles are prohibited?

THE unclassified vehicles will no longer be able to drive or park in the ZFE Bordeauxexcept in cases of exemption. Here are the categories concerned:

Petrol or diesel cars registered before January 1, 1997.
Motorized two-wheelers registered before June 1, 2000.
Light Utilities registered before October 1, 1997.
Heavy goods vehicles, buses and coaches registered before October 1, 2001.

Vehicles complying with Crit’Air 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 will still be able to circulate, depending on their classification.

Timetable for setting up the ZFE Bordeaux

December 11, 2024 : Opening of requests for exemptions.
January 1, 2025 : Official entry into force of the ZFE.
First half of 2025 : Installation of traffic signs.
July 1, 2025 : Start of checks by the authorities.

Please note: automated checks will only begin in 2027providing a transitional period.

How to access the ZFE with an unclassified vehicle?

If your vehicle is unclassifiedyou can still use the park and ride (P + R) intra-ring road. These car parks provide direct access to public transport via special lanes. A Pass ZFE also offers you 24 days of access per year, to be requested before each trip to the dedicated site from January 2, 2025.

Exemptions and financial aid

For unclassified vehicles, temporary exemptions of 3 years can be granted in 15 specific cases, including:

People in a situation of handicap (mobility inclusion card). Vehicles of civil security associations. Travel for reasons medical.

In addition, financial aid will be available from January 2025 to encourage Girondins to replace their polluting vehicles.

A device criticized for its limited scope

The ZFE Bordeaux concerns only 3% of vehicles in or approximately 11,000 unclassified vehicles. The checks were not planned before 2027many voices are being raised to denounce a symbolic measure. Claudine Bichet, elected environmentalist, describes this ZFE as a “display law”.
